Air Compressors & Generators

Product Information

compressors and generatorsWe need both air compressors and generators at my machine shop as the mains power is often out so we need backup and the compressor well they are useful for lots of different services that we provide to clients. It took me a while to gather all of the information that I needed to get the right air compressors and generators that I needed for my requirements but once I did life at the shop became easier and was a lot smoother to run.

If you are like us at the shop and have a need to use both air compressors and generators here are some tips on what you will need:

Things you need for air compressors and generators:

#1 air compressors & generators: for both air compressors and generators you need to have switches and/or controls that are accessible and easy to use. If they are hidden away or in an awkward position on the air compressors and generators then you may want to rethink your choice for something easier to use;

#2 air compressors & generators: air filters are very important for both air compressors and generators and in fact neither will work very efficiently if they are not regularly monitored and changed when they are clogged or faulty. If you are having a problem with air compressors and generators check the air filter make sure that the air intake is okay and not stalling the engine;

#3 air compressors & generators: noise is a major consideration when you are buying air compressors and generators. In our case they were going to be used in an already noisy environment that I didn’t want to make worse by adding air compressors and generators so I checked them for decibel rating and also had the salesperson run them so that I could hear how noisy they were before I purchased them. This is even more important if you are buying air compressors and generators for the home environment – many local governments have strict noise pollution regulations besides you don’t want to drive to family and neighbors crazy with the noise;

#4 air compressors & generators: you need to keep both air compressors and generators well lubricated otherwise you may run into some difficulties with their operation. Its always handy to read the manual for your air compressors and generators to see what is recommended by the manufacturers as best practice and remember to never let them run dry;

#5 air compressors & generators: generator extension cords that are of a good quality will ensure that you can safely connect the generator to your valuable items or into a predetermined power supply outlet;

#6 air compressors & generators: a pressure gauge is an important or should I say an essential part of the equipment you need with your air compressor. This allows you to control and monitor the pressure being produced by the compressor;

#7 air compressors & generators: if you want to have your generator plugged into the power so that you can switch over to the generator easily in case of a power failure then you may want to consider also installing a generator transfer switch panel to make this process easily. They have industrial panels and you can also buy something similar for your home if the generator you buy is in case of power failure in the home environment. Always have a qualified electrical person perform this work for you as it is very specialized and a lot can go wrong if it is not done correctly;

#8 air compressors & generators: the size of the generator that you need will depend on two things. You need to audit your space and note down the appliances that you will need to use in case of power failure and you will need the back up power to operate these. The next thing you need to work out is what voltage that you need to not only run these items but to start them. It is worth noting that some appliances take more power at start up than to run and this needs to be taken into account with any of your calculations otherwise you may end up with a unit that does not meet your power requirements;

#9 air compressors & generators: any electrical or mechanical equipment that you purchase for any reason must meet the minimum required safety standards for that item as deemed by law and it is no different for air compressors and generators. Make sure that you are aware of these standards before buying air compressors and generators to make sure that the unit your purchasing and taking into your home or workplace sill not be a hazard in any way. Note that with diesel and gasoline generators if they are going to be run in an enclosed space the area must be well ventilated. Generators will produce carbon monoxide fumes that are deadly and will affect a person potentially fatally with a short space of time;

#10 air compressors & generators: support and warranty. Make sure that before you buy air compressors and generators that the supplier and manufacturer have a support department that will be able to answer questions and provide solutions in case you experience difficulties with your purchases. It is also worth making sure that you have a long-term warranty that covers the air compressors and generators in case of breakdown or faulty parts. If the manufacturer and supplier cannot provide either of these for your air compressors and generators then you may want to find one that will to cover you in case there are issues once you buy.
